float trail

English to Dutch Tech/Engineering Mining & Minerals / Gems
A guy is looking for gold on his claim in the West. "I followed a *float trail* that as near as I can figure ends somewhere on this claim." Enig idee wat een float trail is? Bij voorbaat dank!

De Dictionary of Mining, Mineral, and Related Terms

geeft voor 'float' twee betekenissen die volgens mij hier relevant kunnen zijn:
1. A general term for loose fragments of ore or rock, esp. on a hillside below an outcropping ledge or vein. Syn:floater
float ore.
2. Metal particles so fine that they float on the surface of water in
crushing or washing, as float gold.

In dit geval lijkt het mij te gaan om het eerste.
