straight flight of metal stairs / staircase
Personally, I'd have thought that the feminine agreement of 'droite' means 'straight' and goes with 'volée', I feel sure that if it had meant 'right-hand' it would have been expressed in different terms...

If this concerns a standard, it seems logical to me that it might refer to straight flights of (industrial) metal stairs, where safety regulations might be expected to be quite specific.

right-hand metal staircase
volée - flight of stairs
Perhaps it refers to a spiral staircase, or a flight that curves to the right?

: If these are general specifications, it seems to me odd they would specify 'r/h'; in any given factory one might expect a mix of l/h and r/h

: spiral is absolutely right. If the stairs were face on with no turn one way or the other, there would have been no need to specify. Also they are in metal and could be casecurity caged for access to hazardous places.

: I think 'droite' in this context means straight and not left or right side.

straight line metal steps
that's what we use to get on our machines !!! Generally there are only 3 or 4 steps - a staircase seems a bit like overkill to me.

: Sorry, Connor, but that sort of steps would be an 'escabeau'; this sort of 'escalier' is pretty definitely a 'staircase' (or equivalent)
