I am translating a diploma from Colgate University, granted back in the 1960's. On the diploma it says the following: "Quamobrem... Primum in Artibus Gradum... ei contulimus". The word "primum" here is not printed on the template, but added in a blank as if other words could also go there (such as secundum perhaps).
What is the English equivalent of a "Primum Gradum" in a university? I would assume the translation should be "Bachelor of Arts," since this is the "first degree" you get, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks.
