Spanish term

(parientes) ascendientes y desciendentes en línea directa, en primer grado

Spanish to English Other Genealogy Legalese for family members
Can someone please decipher this obnoxious legalese for what is probably quite a simple concept?
Nuclear family?
(parientes) ascendientes y descendientes en línea directa, en primer grado
Gracias.

I usually fudge it by saying "direct relatives", which is admittedly a bit vague, because any attempt at a closer translation looks odd.

Did you check the glossary before you posted? I'd be very surprised if we hadn't had this and your other question before.

Thanks, Jennifer. Perhaps "first-degree" covers the "direct" part. I agree with the asker that its "obnoxious" terminology but based my answer on a translation I did where they went on and on about ascending, descending, collateral lines. Horrible!
agree Yvonne Gallagher : with Jenniferts
