Spanish term

espóndilouncoartrosis

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
Term is from a Spanish (Ibiza) MRI report on the cervical spine and appears in the conclusion of the report.

Also, on a previous page "espondilodiscoartrosis" is mentioned. I have seen a previous Kudoz question referring to this term and the answerer stated that the concept of "disco" here is not required, therefore the translation given was "spondyloarthritis". However, as I have both "espondilodiscoartrosis" and "espondilouncoartrosis" to translate, I feel that I need to differentiate between the two, but am unsure how best to phrase it.

Another query that arose from looking at the existing answer for "espondilodiscoartrosis" was the use of "arthritis" or "arthrosis". The previous answer given suggested "spondyloarthritis", however, I would be more inclined to think that "spondyloarthrosis" should be the correct answer, as indeed another answerer also suggested.

So any light that can be shed on these terms would be most useful. The "unco" term just appears on its own in a list of conclusions, so I cannot provide much more context, I'm afraid.

Thanks

Hi Helen Yes, I understand (although you only made mention of having found it). I posted the reference so that other persons who could help you would not have to go searching for the original post. Thanks. Have a good Sunday!

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I eventually opted for "uncarthrosis" based on this answer and the comments of Josephine Billet as referenced by Muriel Vasconcellos, hence the points as Muriel perhaps deserves the other 2, but unfortunately I cannot award any! Thanks for all the information provided"

spondylitis

Uncoarthrosis is an archaic term that fell out of use half a century ago (along with gonarthrosis and several other fancy ways to say arthritis). The compound form used above is actually redundant. Spondylo refers to the spine (such as spondylitis, spondylolisthesis, etc.) and uncarthrosis refers to disorder/pain of the spine joints.

The correct term in actual usage is spondylitis.

Note from asker:
Thanks. I have already seen this glossary entry and commented on it in my original question.
