Spanish term

Absoluto

Spanish to English Marketing Sports / Fitness / Recreation Swimming
Please can anyone help with translating "absolutos" in the context of an adults open water swimming competition in Spain. The whole phrase is as follows:

Los 3 absolutos, tanto masculinos como femeninos, no recibirán trofeo en su categoría de edad.

Online references say it means "open", meaning that the age categories don't apply...but the context here shows that this cannot be the case.

Any help would me much appreciated!

Absolute

I would say it means "absolute winner". If they had written "three winners" it could be that there are three winners of each race, instead of one winner per race.

I would write something like, "In the case of both men and women, the absolute winner of each of the three categories will not be awarded a throphy in their respective age category.

Loeb was the absolute winner of this year's rally, having won even against Power Stage, and walked away from Greece with the maximum number of points (28).

neutral patinba : I think the "3 absolutos" refers to the first three men and first three women.

Senior

As it happens in Spanish with the National Football team, they are "La Selección Absoluta", I think it could be the same case here. So, this text might be speaking of age or professionality categories. The senior category, the comen category, etc.
