English-BRAPortuguese oil and gas translator and terminology researcher.
Made up of countless tough technical terms, the terminology pertaining to the offshore industry is pros-only territory. The offshore industry is a very fast paced business, demanding that the linguist works just as fast, leaving no time to learn the terminology from scratch. Mistakes can be costly and result in negative impact on your company’s business and image overseas. Therefore choosing a translator with real and verifiable experience in oil & gas industrial vocabulary is crucial for commercial success.

Presently, and on an ongoing basis, my experience with translations to Portuguese for the offshore industry has been a very successful one. I have translated several large documents encompassing specific topics such as directional drilling, completion and workover engineering, offshore tender assist platform drilling, petroleum and gas engineering as well as HSE standards specific to the industry, into Brazilian Portuguese. Here are some highlights of my experience with the terminology used in the oil & gas industry:

* 50,000+ words translated, specifically in the technical field of oil exploration
* Provided translation services (through several outsourcers) to major North American companies operating in the oil, gas, offshore, mineral and drilling industries, such as: Petrobras, Schlumberger, Atlantica Tender Drilling Ltd., and Dorado Drilling.
* Industry specific training - Certificate in Well Drilling (Certificação em Perfuração de Poços) with Prof. Marcílio Prado Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineer by PUC-RJ, Well Engineering Researcher at CENPES (Brazil) and Engineer at Petrobras. By FTEC - School of continuing studies (in progress).

Source language (English) Drill collars are used to apply weight to the bit which decreases with increased inclination. Their large wall thickness gives them a greater resistance to buckling than DP. In vertical, or near vertical, wells the neutral point should be located at the top of the drill collars section and 75 to 85% (maximum) of the drill collars section which should be under compression (this will include HWDP if utilized). The neutral point should never be in the DP section unless the inclination of the well requires it. In deviated wells the neutral point may be in the HWDP and in highly deviated, or horizontal, wells it may be in the drill pipe
