Spanish term

autor consagrado

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Hi there,

I'm doing a bit of inverse translation for an article summary that I need to submit in English and Spanish; I'm having a hard time translating the phrase below:

"Con Pablo Neruda y otros autores consagrados..."

I know that there is a specific phrase to say it but I just can't remember it or find it anywhere. Can you help me, please?

Thanks so much!!!
Have a very nice day :)

What a wonderful and scary position to be in! :)
ormiston Dec 1, 2009:
maybe OTT for your text, but one fo rthe book but just maybe the word you couldn't put your finger on (!) is 'monstre sacré'. Pablo Neruda HAS been called one (well, Michael Jackson too but that's another story!)

You might also say "revered".
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Just "acclaimed" would do.

Yep, most definitely! Thanks Phil. :)
agree Evans (X) : I'm with Phil, just acclaimed is enough, but definitely without the hyphen if you keep highly as it is an adverb.

Yes, I kind of put in the hyphen before I remembered how much I prefer to avoid them! Thanks Gilla! :)
agree Noni Gilbert Riley : Yes, I think I'd go for just acclaimed - sounds a bit less like "blockbuster" blurb!
7 mins
Haha, yeah, I agree. Thanks! :)
agree Kathleen Misson : I like just "acclaimed" by itself too

devoted author

consagrarse a algo - to devote oneself to something
Peer comment(s):

agree Natali Franc (X) : Just that in plural
13 mins
disagree Jim Tucker (X) : Doesn't work like this in EN. It does not follow from the meaning of consagrarse that all of its forms are also equivalent; one of the dangers of using a bilingual dictionary.

neutral Kate Major Patience : I feel I should point out that "established" is that they have a reputation, people know who they are, which is not quite the same as being "acclaimed", famous, a national treasure. Dickens, Neruda, etc., are not established, they are "revered".

agree Jenell @ CV Listo : I like renowned, using revered would depend on the context, in my opinion.
