I wonder what that could mean in the following context. This is the beginning of the paragraph:
بالنظر إلى ما سطرته المستأنف ضدها بسبب أنها تجاهد باطلا لإلغاء نصوص قانون المرافعات وعلى الأخص المادتين رقمي 199، 200 زاعمة أنهما لا ينطبقان على واقعة الدعوى المستأنفة وهي بجانب مخالفتها الصارخة للقانون جاهدت أيضا في مخالفة المبادئ التي أرساها قضاء التمييز في أحكامه
What could be the meaning of جاهد باطلا or for that matter جاهد in this context? I translated as "endeavored." Literally, the first could be translated as "endeavored in vain" or "argued in vain for," but this would be at odds with the rest of the sentence.
I guess, it could mean that it "argued/pleaded without justification/reason for the repeal of, etc."... Do you agree or do you have a more pertinent interpretation? Thanks.

Comment: "I guess this can be tweaked to say that, even if the grammatical construction is different; but that's what translation needs at times: creative adaptation... Thanks."
