Może się to komuś przydać. Po konsultacji ze statystykiem skorzystałem z tłumaczenia drugiej nazwy podanej przez Geopieta (jeszcze raz dziękuję). W związku z tym "pickup arm" to ramię "ratunkowe". Chodzi o to, że "ratuje" się dzięki temu pacjentów, którzy byliby inaczej skazani na wykluczenie z badania. Tym "ratunkiem" jest włączenie ich do dodatkowego ramienia, w którym podaje się lek, dla którego chce się wykazać nie-podrzędność (non-inferiority) lub nadrzędność (superiority) względem innego/innych.

@Geopiet Dziękuję Ci bardzo. Znalazłeś to, czego ja na szybko nie byłem w stanie. Pogodziłem się z tym, że nie ma polskiego odpowiednika i teraz będę musiał sam coś stworzyć. Bardziej pasuje mi synonim (rescue), wtedy może to być ramię "ratunkowe".

@Magdalena Dziękuję za wskazówkę, "arm" to jednak ramię badania. Z tym pickup intuicyjnie, a teraz literalnie wiem o co chodzi - "podejmowano" ich tam, gdzie ich wcześniej "zostawiono", ale nie mam polskiego odpowiednika. Zapytanie się amerykańskich autorów artykułu nic nie pomoże.
