This is from a PPP on soil surfactants. The slide has the title "Consequences of soil hydrophobicity on soil water management" and this is one of the bullet points:

Non-homogenous moisture infiltration and distribution in the soil (Fingering, Tongues)

From what I could find on the internet, this relates to how the water distributes itself in the soil, i.e. it forms fingers or tongues, but I have problems finding the German equivalents. Would it be alright to simply say "Bildung von Fingern oder Zungen" or are there any more specialized terms in German?

Fingering lässt sich in diesem Feuchtigkeitskontext relativ einfach und mehrfach finden.
Es ist bei nicht homogenen Feuchtigkeitseintrag oder Flüssigkeitsverhalten im Erdboden die Ausbildung von Fingern oder Zungen zu beobachten, die sich dann kühn ihren Weg in unbenetztes Terrain bahnen.
An dieser Stelle Fingering also so lassen , Tongues , vielleicht mit Zungen übersetzen oder beides so: finger- und zungenförmige(r) Vorstoß/Ausbreitung

agree  Marcus König: Fingerbildung, Fingering, Zungen sind alles geläufige bodenphysikalische Begriffe (bis auf "Vorstoß", das klingt für mein Gefühl merkwürdig im Zusammenhang mit der Infiltrationstheorie)
