I'm from the UK, and I understand a ward as accommodating several patients, whereas there may be individual rooms for certain cases. So, my translation would depend on whether there are other patients in the ward, or whether the patient in question is in a separate individual room.

However, based on my understanding what you wrote under "Contexto" is your own description and your own understanding, rather than the actual text you are translating! Then if you feel strongly one way that it should be "ward", do one of two things: 1) go with what you feel like; or 2) post more actual text, i.e. the actual text you are translating so that others can then give informed opinions as to what the text "may" really mean! As per our current conversation, I believe we've agreed so far on what a ward constitutes. And if we were talking exclusively about the sentence in question (“Finalmente llegué a la habitación donde estaba internado Gabriel”), I would agree as well with your overall assessment.

However, I believe that the possibly ambiguous context paragraph written in Spanish (which starts at "Contexto" and ends at "enfermos"; more than "a mere 9 words") that I've been referring to repeatedly is not being factored at all, and that is where the idea of a ward has become a possibility in my mind.

As I believe we have been going in circles for some time now, I have nothing further to add to this thread.

It is funny that both Eileen, myself and David all see it the same way. You can have private rooms, semi-private rooms (usually 2 persons), but those are not wards. Juan, IMO, your context does not give the impression of being a ward in the slightest (whether you used "camas" or otherwise). Your context was simply, a mere 9 words, at that. "Finalmente llegué a la habitación donde estaba internado Gabriel". How do you deduce "ward" from 9 words of actual text. I certainly have no idea. But ... it is your work ... Regards.

Following up on the conversation below, I wouldn't say the use of said plural is incorrect in Spanish. Indeed, that is why the provided context makes me think of a ward (a hospital room with beds), yet it could very well be a redundancy (hospital rooms have beds).

I don't quite understand your hesitation to use "(hospital) room" - ... a story about a sick man who suffers from leukemia and is hospitalized. The room refers to the hospital room, where the sick beds are located, as opposed to a **ward which is a room in a hospital which has beds for many people, often people who need similar treatment.** Hmm?
