Arabic term or phrase: خرقة
Hi everyone,

This is another insult that I've come across. It's from a North African text.

I know this word usually means 'rag/cloth', but how is it used as an insult?

It's said by a man in the military to a new recruit to get off the bus.

ألم تسمعني يا عديم الفائدة؟ يا خرقة؟ قلت لك انزل.

Thanks!

English translation:You worthless piece of trash
Explanation:
Or You piece of garbage

The phrase يا خرقة translates to "You rag?" in English. The man is belittling and disrespecting the new recruit by comparing them to a worthless or insignificant object, suggesting that they are of no value or importance. The phrase is intended to demean and insult the person, expressing the speaker's contempt or frustration towards them.

An appropriate equivalent to convey the insult and derogatory tone of "يا خرقة؟ would be "You piece of garbage!" or "You worthless piece of trash!" These phrases capture the offensive nature of the insult and effectively convey the speaker's contempt and disdain towards the person being addressed.

clumsy

Explanation:
I think "clumsy" works in this context!
خرقة looks like أخرق which means the person who can't do something well. Similar to useless.
