But the rates have gone up! | | | neilmac Spain Local time: 14:16 Spanish to English + ... About the same | Jul 16, 2012 |
Getting less work - or none - from some clients and more or less the same amount as usual from others, plus some from a few new clients who came to me by recommendation. Apart from a couple of approaches re availability for the summer months, I'm getting less offers of work from agencies in general, perhaps because they are not usually keen to comply with my conditions re workable formats and deadlines. Am normally too busy to fit them in anyway, so it's no skin off my nose really. | | | Ty Kendall United Kingdom Local time: 13:16 Hebrew to English Seriously??????????????????? | Jul 16, 2012 |

Tomorrow's poll will be: "In comparison with 2011, I project the work volume for the rest of the year to be..." Ty Kendall wrote: Saturday's Poll: Financially, for me, the first half of 2012 was..... ALL ANONYMOUS Does nobody else feel a bit uneasy answering these questions now? And, if these polls have all been originated by Proz Staff in preference to the backlog of suggestions made by Proz members who are still waiting for their turn, wouldn't that be blatantly self-serving and rude? Changed smiley to better reflect my uneasiness about the overall intrusiveness of these kind of questions, all three on the trot. I'd suggest discretion when you answer, that's all.

Yes, it's getting suspicious. But to answer the question, my volume is about the same, maybe a little better, but the rates are higher.

With such similar polls in such close proximity, all veiled with anonymity, I'm starting to feel like I'm answering a marketing questionnaire, or that this data is being compliled to sell on to a 3rd party. | | | Allison Wright (X) Portugal Local time: 13:16 2011 no yardstick | Jul 16, 2012 |
OK, anonymous pollster, if you really want to know, the last time I enjoyed such a surge of apparent progress and similar volumes was in 1995. I am sure the decade to which this date belongs is not included in any predictive trends you are trying to hatch. See more OK, anonymous pollster, if you really want to know, the last time I enjoyed such a surge of apparent progress and similar volumes was in 1995. I am sure the decade to which this date belongs is not included in any predictive trends you are trying to hatch. I shall not comment on the "average", "mediocre", "bad" or "downright depressing" patches. There was also some great periods, and months at a stretch which were wonderful, but since the aforementioned date in the previous century, none of these translate into good *annual* figures. Since I worked so-called "part-time" as a freelance translator for many years, there is no real common basis for comparison. And no matter how many cubic metres of work I do, it is useless without someone paying me for it! Edited to include "for many years".

What possible harm can it do to answer this poll? How can it be intrusive when it's anonymous?

Michael Harris wrote: and with Ty, I recon they should ban the anonymous poll posters, why should no one know who is posting? @Michael Hear! Hear! Yes, who exactly is asking these questions? I can't believe that three "anonymous" polls like this can be randomly pulled out of the hat in mind-boggling succession like this. I think that Proz Staff should tell us why so-called "anonymous" polls are being chosen in this ridiculous manner when there is, I'm sure, a backlog of interesting and thought-provoking material posted by us Proz members waiting in the wings. I think greater transparency in the procedures for selecting discussion material is called for! | | | chill, also: 2012 beats 2011 | Jul 16, 2012 |
Get real, guys. If you don't like the poll, don't answer the poll. I really don't see why we should all be so fired up about sharing details on our workload or anonymous polls. It's not that they are asking for our PIN to take cash out of our accounts! To answer the question: 2012 is already much better than 2011, and 2011 wasn't bad. I guess my company is still in the growth phase (2,5 years now), which is nice! | | | Andrea Munhoz Brazil Local time: 09:16 Portuguese to English + ... About the same | Jul 16, 2012 |
So far, but, come on! We're in the middle of the year. About the question itself, in my opinion it's just boring. Unusual questions would be welcome.
