It depends Dec 17, 2009

Most often I get on ProZ to respond to an e-mail notification of a KudoZ question. The link in the e-mail takes me straight to the question. Once I'm there, I jump around and end up looking at the daily Quick Poll.

Sometimes I sign on specifically to see the day's Quick Poll!

My third most-likely reason to sign on is to ask a KudoZ question myself.

All those links are on my computer, so I rarely if ever see the home page.

Forced to visit Home Page Dec 17, 2009

1. I get job notification by email
2. I click link to see the job
3. I am asked to log in to see the full details....at which point I get directed to the home page whether I like it or not.

Sort this out ProZ!

First... Dec 17, 2009

I usually open the proz.com homepage with the intention of using the Kudoz glossary to find a term. Then I get distracted and start poking around in the Quick polls or Kudoz questions. If I´m not careful, the whole thing can become like a labyrinth where I spend lots of time "wandering around" not really doing what I set out to do.

Quick poll, Kudoz, Forums, Jobs... Dec 17, 2009

Usually in this order.

Of course I autologin to the Home Page.

I support Simon in what he just reported. Even though seeing the Home Page often happens to be rather interesting.

I think Prozians should be given THE CHOICE here: to see HoPe:) Page or not to see it, saving time and resources, at least in such situations.

Home page Dec 17, 2009

If I'm not looking for a term or looking at a job offer, I usually check the home page to see what the new Quick Poll is.

Greetings from a cloudy and cold Barcelona.

Redundant Dec 17, 2009

Jobs, KudoZ and Forums are all on the home page, so why list them separately? You go to the home page, and there they are.

I lost you Amy! Dec 17, 2009

True, but I want to see THAT job and THAT page, not have to search for them all over again.
Just now I wanted to reply to you, but I had to log in first, and hey presto I got taken to the home page.... and so I lost you!
So, I had to go back to my emails, click the link, open a new browser window......
ProZ is the only site I use that does this, and I have put in a complaint but the request was turned down.

Usually home Dec 17, 2009

My first visit of the day is usually to the home page where I answer the poll.

When I'm working, I generally go directly to the KudoZ term search (mind you, I often access that from the home page, too).

@Simon: I sympathize - it sounds quite annoying. I haven't had any trouble with that, it just keeps me logged on all the time. I never have to log on on my own computer. Perhaps it has something to do with your browser cookies?

Other (Quick poll!) Dec 17, 2009

The only feature I visit regularly is the Poll so I have a direct bookmark to it in my browser toolbar. I never log out of the site so it takes me straight there (I just checked and my oldest still active login session on Proz.com is 680 days). I vote, check the discussion, sometimes participate, then I leave. If I'm looking for work, I click on the link to a specific job in the alert email. So I basically NEVER visit the front page.

Why do you have to log in/out constantly to/from Proz?? Dec 17, 2009

I don't know you, but I think I've logged into Proz once in my life and each time I turn on my computer and get into the Net, I go the Proz website and I'm always logged in. I never log out from the site when I'm finished.

I also think in most browsers there's the option "Save this Session", so it saves all the tabs you have open at the moment. And each time you get into the Net, all those tabs open automatically. This includes you being permanently logged into Proz.

Anyway, the first page I check is Kudoz, to see which interesting questions are there to be answered. When I'm through, I go to the home page and answer the poll of the day.

I guess my browser logs me out Dec 17, 2009

I could stop it from logging me out, but for security and tidiness I like to delete all my cookies etc. every time I reboot my computer.

This is probably why you are having a "problem." I do the same with my computer at home, so--accordingly--I also have to log in anew evey time I have cleared the cookies.

I don't clear the cache at work (though I probably should), so I am automatically logged in regardless of what page I start with (which is usually the homepage anyway, but sometimes I also go straight to the KudoZ question from the e-mail alert I receive).

Cheers!
