Yes, there is some time where I notice more work, but it doesn't match the proposed answers:
August and December.

It depends on the clients - but often everything's due on Friday! Dec 20, 2009

Some of my clients have annual "crunch" times. It used to be April and December for me, but the pattern has changed. This year I had more work in the last October through December than I've had in years.

One trend that I've noticed across the board is that they all want their work by close of business on Friday. Like they're going to do something with it over the week-end? When pressed, they will usually say first thing Monday is fine. So what's with this obsession that so many of

Like others, I did not exactly fit into any of the categories suggested

March-June is usually very busy; September-December, too.

January and August are generally the calmest - everyone is digesting after the holidays and figuring out their budgets for the new year or on vacation (including me!) awaiting the start of the new academic year.

In 2009, the last quarter was the busiest for me.

Best,
Jocelyne

there are certain times Dec 20, 2009

it's been very quiet the last two weeks, which was the same last year in early december. The first week was busy and since then it's dropped off drastically.

Same here, march to june and september to december. Although in April, i had to cut down for a while as there was an illness in the family. I had to turn away work for the last couple of weeks of april, but normally i'd be much busier at that time. January usually starts off very quiet as people are on holidays; it seems to pi

I had to turn away work for the last couple of weeks of april, but normally i'd be much busier at that time. January usually starts off very quiet as people are on holidays; it seems to pick up toward the end of the month. I can probably expect very little from now until mid january, if this year is like last year!

However, some of my clients will be working through the holidays and I told them I might be around if they need me. Like I said it's been very slow and I could always use the money!

And December is usually even worse than August; fast double than in the other months.

In Brazil, nothing much happens between Christmas and Carnival, as in this period people are either on holiday or madly preparing for the Greatest Show on Earth, the Rio de Janeiro Carnival (also the São Paulo Carnival, not so traditional but just as good). In Bahia Carnival lasts the whole year.

After Carnival, things get busier. This year, for me, the second half of the year was definitely better. There is also a dip in July, but not half as noticeable as the one at the end of th

Wouldn't this depend on specialisation? Like, financial things come in by quarters (some quarters more than others) and exhibits have a bad habit of occurring monthly, depending on the institution. Overall, Friday would be the more noticeable factor.

I started, years ago, replacing colleagues who were on holiday in April, July, August and December. That is how I got a name on the market. Mind you, I did not deprive those colleagues of their work: we share clients and still replace each other during holiday periods.

Now, it is more a matter of specialisation (and availability): there is a 'season' for annual reports for instance, or the launching of new products in some industries; there are 'years' also (International Year of Handicapped Persons, for instance), or slowdowns due to special events (enlargement of the EU, elections – European or national), when they are waiting for the new structures to start working. Some events on the contrary bring an increase of work, like the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong to China, some years ago, or important (national or international) trials.
