No single strategy - if the dog needs walking it gets a walk, if the weather is right I go for a cycle ride, I might put on a CD, sleep, ... anything other than work.

It depends on the situation. But also... I wouldn't say I get stressed often. I try to enjoy what I do. If there is a tight deadline, a difficult project, or a 'crazy' client... stress will not help solve the issue. The best anti-stress solution is to try to control your emotions. And we should be able to do it, as we are able to control all of our activities.

I might take a deep breath, walk the dogs, listen to music, watch TV, go shopping, take a nap, bake a cake, read the newspapers, clean and tidy up the house, eat chocolate and... promise myself to manage my time better next time!

Music among other things | Oct 8, 2011 |
I voted "play music", as I find playing the guitar very helpful for switching off. But as others have said, I use a whole range of strategies, depending on what is causing the stress and how I feel.

A general comment about polls: Why are there always so many people chosing "other"? Can't we just give a general answer, even if, of course, we are not robots and we never meet any option 100%? We can always say "all/some of the above/it depends", but maybe if we tried to chose the most close option to the reality, the results would be more interesting As for this poll, I marked "meeting friends". The long answer is that I stop working, I think that I have more time than I think and not as much work as it seems, I create a new schedule and then I relax doing whatever, mostly meeting friends, but also going for a walk or watching TV. After that break, I can start again ▲ Collapse

I spend a good deal of time reading novels - nothing like a novel for taking you far, far away from the stress of everyday life. As "I read" is not an option for this poll, it has to be "other".
