In Venezuelan Spanish, a “fundo” is a landed property used for breeding animals, especially cattle, and/or as a farm; a fundo’s size ranges from small to very, very large; it also includes a country house.
I need to translate “fundo” into English in such a way that it may be easily understood in any variety of English; the document is a technical report on/of expert appraisal (“informe técnico de avalúo”) of a “fundo” which will be used as a guarantee when applying for financing from international financial entities.
So far, I have used “country property”.

Me parece que ésta es la mejor opción, dado que se puede aplicar sin importar la cantidad terreno y además mantiene la ambigüedad entre Ranch (que es un término que se usa principalmente para tierras dedicadas a la crianza de animales de diversas especies)y Farm (que implica tierras dedicadas a la agricultura). Yo mantendría tu propia traducción. Suerte!!

Ranch is an extremely flexible term used for farms of all sizes, residences, undeveloped land, developed land etc. It really just means country estate in the United States. I am no expert on its use in Great Britain, but it is certainly a familiar term there.

IF it is upmarket and grand with terrraces,gardens etc, and has complex architecture, it could be an estate. If it is a large, sprawling house but not FANCY, it is a ranch. One would have to seee a picture. SInce it is in VEnezuela, I tend to think it is a ranch house and believe me, they can be grand or not.
