Sound measuring is performed through the use of a sound level meter and gives a result of the sound pressure level at a given site and instance. It is not to be confused with audiometric measurement which is done to elucidate the hearing capacity of a person at different sound levels.

: It's also used to check how ripe fruit and veg are, but that doesn't preclude its use elsewhere. "Sonometry" sounds plain enough English to me.
