Spanish term

Beneficio de pobreza (Chile)

FVA Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Law (general) (court cases)
Hola:

Gracias.

Toni Castano Sep 10, 2020:
@Allegro But the worst thing of all is that the asker did not have either the time or the interest to even answer what the target country is, something basic to be able to help properly, despite my request in such sense.
Well, everybody is free to make their own decisions as far as taking part in Kudoz is concerned. As for me, I certainly know what to do.
Barbara Cochran, MFA Sep 10, 2020:
I Wondwr Why... ...such an option would even be offered, since other, even more accurate options might be offered at later times.
AllegroTrans Sep 10, 2020:
@ Toni I completely agree, the question should never have been asked in "first validated answer" mode

"In forma pauperis" in the UK (for info) https://www.gwslaw.co.uk/2012/02/in-forma-pauperis/
Rebecca Jowers Sep 10, 2020:
right vs. leave to proceed in forma pauperis "Beneficio de pobreza" refers to one's right to proceed in forma pauperis, that is, the right to legal aid. But one doesn't have leave to proceed in forma pauperis until he files an in forma pauperis petition and the court subsequently grants him leave (permission) to proceed in forma pauperis.
Toni Castano Sep 10, 2020:
Unbelievable This question is closed by means of the first validated answer method without clarification of the target country, no reaction from the asker, and with two peers supporting an answer that can only be valid for the USA (being by the way the right expression "leave to proceed in forma pauperis" (better than "right to (...)"). I am speechless, to put it midlly.
Toni Castano Sep 10, 2020:
@Gilda It is impossible to answer your question (and to be really helpful) without knowing to what language variant you are translating your text. The language pair was by the way wrong. I have reversed it.

right to proceed "in forma pauperis"

This is the standard expression used in the US (if you need British usage, perhaps another colleague can weigh in)

neutral Toni Castano : Please read my notes, Rebecca. You very well know how much I respect your expertise, but this outcome is not acceptable. "Legal aid" is the right answer for the UK... // Nothing against your answer as such (only "leave" better than "right"), but...

Hi, Toni. I indicated above that my answer would be appropriate for the US and that if British usage were required, perhaps another colleague could weigh in. "Legal aid" is also used in the US.//I'll add a discussion comment on "right" vs. "leave"

poverty law

Harvard Law defines poverty law as, "the legal statutes, regulations and cases that apply particularly to the financially poor in his or her day to day life". In a commonsense understanding and in practice, the goal of poverty law is to protect the disadvantaged poor from unfair treatment by the law. Poverty law often overlaps with federal benefits and welfare policies. Pertinent federal government benefits include Medicaid; cash public assistance (more commonly known as Welfare); and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program, previously known as the food stamps program. Poverty law frequently involves questions of administrative law, civil rights law, constitutional law, employment law, and health law.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Déborah Gelardi : Your definition of a branch of law is OK but it has nothing to do with the question, which is about a court petition.
