Of the many beauty launches this year which ones have stood out? Here, discover Vogue beauty and lifestyle director, Jessica Diner’s, personal favourites from a very beautiful 2017.
Chanel La Crème Main, £45
Where style meets substance, this hand cream doesn’t fail to be a conversation-starter every time I pull it out of my handbag. The tactile packaging houses a rich, but non-greasy (that ever-elusive combo) hand cream that I have been using in abundance ever since the weather changed.
Hair By Sam McKnight, from £22
Arguably one of the most exciting beauty launches of the year. When Vogue wrote about the new range of sprays from super stylist Sam McKnight, the title was Sam In A Can. And I really can’t think of a better way to describe it. His products have quickly become a staple and I use one of them every morning, without fail: Modern Hairspray to set freshly washed and dried hair; Lazy Girl in between washes; and then Easy Updo or Cool Girl for the tousled hair that is so synonymous with Sam.
Drunk Elephant T. L. C. Sukari Babyfacial, $80
This brand is somewhat of a unicorn in the UK beauty industry, everyone has heard about it but it doesn’t exist here. Yet. So whilst we wait for it to come to our shores, I stock up every time I visit America. Babyfacial is an amazing resurfacing mask. The familiar tingly feeling always makes me feel like it’s sloughing off any accumulated skin grime, and luminosity follows.
Beauty Pie Super Pore Detox Clay Mask, £50 (£6.15 for members)
Earlier in the year my skin was not happy. It was angry, red and breaking out all over the place. I hastily tried everything I could to clear it out and calm it down and this was the only product that worked. My skin has cleared up now but I still do this every fortnight as maintenance. I am truly addicted.
Bobbi Brown Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm, £44.50
Ok, so this wonder product is radiance bottled. Whilst I don’t use it all over the face (I have quite oily skin), I pat it into the tops of cheeks when I have finished my make-up and then have it on my desk to reapply throughout the day and wake up tired skin. What was once a limited edition is now launching in new packaging in early next year in two shades.
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate Matrix, £49
Anything in the ANR family tends to make its way into my bathroom cabinet and this is no exception. The cooling wand applicator delivers the perfect amount of the brilliant anti-ageing gel and de-puffs at the same time. Love.
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Light Wand, £29
I was at an event when someone came from across the room to ask me what highlighter I was wearing, as it caught their eye. I was wearing this. And now I won’t go out in the evenings without it. Radiance in one fell swipe, I am obsessed.
LIXIR Skin Vitamin C Paste, £32
Yes, I am a sucker for the gorgeous millennial pink packaging, but I love it when a new brand delivers. The Vitamin C Paste is the hero of the brand for me. I put it on for 10 minutes in the morning whilst having my cup of tea and wash it off to reveal revived skin.
Byredo Velvet Haze Fragrance, from £95
Gypsy Water has always been my favourite Byredo fragrance – until Velvet Haze came along. Sultry, creamy and musky, it now sits pride of place on my desk (and has almost been stolen by colleagues more times than I care to remember). Hands off, it’s mine.
Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer, £24
This is the ultimate erase paste. The soft, velvety formula wipes away eye bags and blemishes effortlessly. I will often wear it in place of foundation and have got through four pots since it launched. I will never be without.
Pat McGrath Labs Mothership I: Subliminal Palette, $125
Make-up artist, Pat McGrath’s eye for colour and non-compromising attitude to formulation means that she is changing the make-up game. Each of the soft, shimmering shades in this palette are supremely flattering - there is no dud. Mother (as Pat is affectionately known) really knows best.
Vichy Mineral 89 Skin Booster, £25
Like a cool glass of water for skin, this thermal water-based serum with hyaluronic acid (my favourite) is seriously moisturising. I will mix it into any and every moisturiser in the morning to amp up hydration and give skin a little extra bit of plumping.
Vanderohe No. 1 Nourishing Face Serum, £88
Sometimes there are products that you come across that just make sense. With essential oils sourced from all over the globe for their quality, this serum is heaven to massage into the skin and an olfactive treat too. It’s now forced out all products in the evening, reducing my nighttime routine to just this one.
Glossier Cloud Paint Blush, £15
Could I have met my perfect blush? The sheer formula means you can build up colour for a pretty flush to the cheeks (and I also wear it on my lips). All shades are a mainstay in my make-up bag and I mix them up depending on what mood I am in.
YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Stain, £29
2017 has been the year of the liquid lipstick and this is my pick of the bunch. The angled applicator works its way around the cupid’s bow seamlessly for a perfect application every time (even in the back of a cab, I can attest) and the velvet-stain finish and durability is incomparable.

확실히 이 제품은 올해 가장 놀라운 뷰티 제품 중에 하나입니다. 보그지에서 뛰어난 스타일리스트 샘 맥나이트의 다양한 헤어스프레이 제품을 취재한 기사의 제목은 '스프레이 캔에 담긴 샘 맥나이트'이었습니다. 그리고 이보다 더 잘 표현한 말은 없을 거에요. 샘 맥나이트의 제품은 바로 필수품이 되었고, 매일 아침마다 사용하지만 한번도 실패한 적이 없지요. 산뜻하게 감고 말린 머리에 뿌리는 모던한 헤어 스프레이입니다. 귀찮다면 꼭 머리를 감고 뿌릴 필요는 없어요. 그러고 나서 샘과 동의어라고 할 수 있는 올림머리나 자연스럽게 헝클어진 머리를 만들면 됩니다.

드렁크 엘리펀트는 영국 뷰티 산업계에서는 일종의 유니콘과 같습니다. 모두가 들어보았지만, 어디에도 없죠. 아직은요. 그래서 이 제품이 영국에 도착하길 기다리는 동안, 미국에 출장 갈 때마다 항상 이 제품을 사놓습니다. 베이비페이셜은 엄청난 리설페이싱 마스크입니다. 친숙한 자극감이 느껴지면서 쌓인 각질을 제거하고 피부에 광채를 찾아줍니다.

올해 초 피부 상태가 별로 좋지 않았습니다. 피부는 성나있고, 빨갛게 달아올랐으며, 여기저기 트러블이 생겼죠. 전 피부를 깨끗하게 만들고 진정시키기 위해 닥치는 대로 모든 제품을 사용해보았어요. 그리고 이 제품이 효과를 보인 유일한 제품이었죠. 지금 제 피부는 깨끗하지만, 여전히 유지를 위해 이 주일간 매일 사용했습니다. 완전히 중독되었어요.
바비 브라운 엑스트라 일루미네이팅 모이스처 밤, 44.5파운드
그래요, 이 놀라운 제품은 병에 담긴 광채라고도 할 수 있습니다. (꽤 지성이기 때문에) 이 제품을 얼굴 전체에 바르지는 않지만, 메이크업 후 뺨의 위쪽에 살짝 발라줍니다. 그리고 이 제품은 항상 제 책상 위에 놓고 피곤한 피부에 생기를 넣어주기 위해 수시로 사용합니다. 이전에는 한정판이었지만, 내년 초에는 새로운 패키지에 두 가지 컬러로 새로 출시할 예정입니다.
에스티 로더 어드벤스드 나이트 리페어 아이 콘센트레이트 매트릭스, 49파운드
모든 어드벤스드 나이트 리페어 라인은 화장실 캐비닛의 필수품이며 이 제품도 마찬가지이죠. 쿨링 스틱 어플리케이터가 정확한 양의 안티 에이징 젤을 눈가에 올려주며 손대지 않고 편안하게 사용할 수 있도록 해줍니다. 최고죠.
샤롯 틸버리 헐리우드 뷰티 라이트 완드, 29파운드
한 이벤트에 참여하고 있을 때, 누군가가 와서는 어떤 하이라이터를 썼냐고 물어보았습니다. 모두의 눈을 사로잡은 하이라이터는 바로 이 제품이었습니다. 그리고 이제 저는 이 제품 없이는 어떤 저녁 약속도 나가지 못하겠군요. 한번 쓱 그어서 만들어지는 광채에 완전히 중독되었어요.
LIXIR 스킨 비타민 C 페이스트, 32파운드
네, 전 이 우아한 로즈골드 빛 패키지에는 사족을 못 쓰지만, 새로운 제품이 로즈골드 패키지로 출시될 때 가장 좋아해요. 비타민 C 페이스트는 뷰티 제품 중 영웅이라고 할 수 있어요. 아침에 차 한잔을 마시며 10분 동안 얼굴에 올려놓았다 씻어내면 새로 태어난 피부를 느낄 수 있습니다.
바이레도 벨벳 헤이즈 프레그런스, 95파운드부터
집시워터는 바이레도 향수 중 제가 항상 가장 좋아하는 향수였죠. 벨벳 헤이즈가 나타나기 전까지요. 묵직하고, 부드러우며 머스크 한 향을 지닌 이 제품은 제 화장대의 명예의 전당에 올라가 있습니다. (그리고 제가 기억할 수 없을 만큼 동료들이 훔쳐가려고 했지요) 손 치우시죠. 이건 제거에요.
나스 소프트 매트 컴플리트 컨실러, 24파운드
이 제품은 최고의 컨실러 제형입니다. 부드럽고 벨벳과도 같은 제형이 다크서클과 홍조를 손쉽게 지워줍니다. 종종 이 제품을 파운데이션 대신 사용해서 출시된 이후로 4통이나 사용해버렸어요. 이 제품 없이는 화장하지 않을 겁니다.
팻 맥그래스 마더십 I: 서브리미널 팔레트, 125달러
메이크업 아티스트인 팻 맥그래이스가 출시한 아이 팔레트와 제형에 대해 절충하지 않는 태도는 메이크업 계의 판도를 뒤집어놓았습니다. 팔레트의 모든 색상이 부드럽고 쉬머하며 너무나 아름답게 반짝거리죠. 쓸데없는 색상이 하나도 없어요. (팻 맥그래이스를 포함해서)엄마는 정말 최고의 것이 무엇인지 알고 있죠.
비쉬 미네랄 89 스킨 부스터, 25파운드
