Review of consolidated results
The consolidated financial statements for the financial year ended 31 December 2016 reported a net profit of Euro 18.1 million, showing a sharp improvement compared to the loss of Euro 25.6 million recorded in 2015 and operations characterised by extremely positive financial and economic results, as was the performance of the key operational performance indicators.
Specifically, the Company was able to benefit from higher resources of Euro 272.2 million during the 2016 financial year, arising from the very successful application of a new system for the collection of ordinary licence fees, which entailed a considerable increase in the number of subscribers.
The results were also excellent for the performance of advertising revenues, which were on the rise for the first time in the last six years, and of other revenues, which contributed Euro 44.2 million to the increase in total revenues.
The higher resources available in 2016 totalled about Euro 342 million, also taking account of savings arising from the optimisation of external costs, for a value of about Euro 26 million.
The higher available resources allowed a full coverage of costs for the Big Sports Events (European Football Cup and summer Olympics, equal to Euro 139.6 million), as well as to pursue two major objectives at the same time:
• the improvement of the offer and investments in digital media (Euro 39 million), consistently with the strategic process to transform Rai into a media company;
• the strengthening of the Group’s financial position structure for Euro 163 million.
The following section provides an overview of the main items in the Income Statement and the Balance Sheet, together with the reasons for the most significant changes compared to the values posted in the previous year.

Analisi dei risultati consolidati
Il bilancio consolidato dell’esercizio chiuso al 31 dicembre 2016 ha registrato un utile netto di 18,1 milioni di euro, in netto miglioramento rispetto alla perdita di 25,6 milioni di euro registrata nel 2015 e una gestione caratterizzata da risultati economici e finanziari estremamente positivi, così come è stato l’andamento dei principali indicatori di performance operativa.
In particolare, la Società ha potuto beneficiare di maggiori risorse pari a 272,2 milioni di euro nel corso dell’esercizio 2016, derivanti dall’applicazione di un nuovo sistema di riscossione dei canoni ordinari, estremamente efficace, che ha comportato un notevole incremento del numero di abbonati.
Ottimi risultati anche per l’andamento dei ricavi pubblicitari, in crescita per la prima volta negli ultimi sei anni, e degli altri ricavi, che hanno contribuito all’incremento dei ricavi totali per 44,2 milioni di euro.
Le maggiori risorse disponibili nel 2016 sono ammontate a circa 342 milioni di euro, tenendo conto anche dei risparmi derivanti dall’ottimizzazione dei costi esterni, per un valore di circa 26 milioni di euro.
Le maggiori risorse disponibili hanno consentito una copertura completa degli oneri per i Grandi Eventi Sportivi (Campionati europei di calcio e Olimpiadi estive, pari a 139,6 milioni di euro), oltre che di perseguire contemporaneamente due importanti obiettivi:
- • il miglioramento dell’offerta e degli investimenti in supporti digitali (39 milioni di euro), in linea con il processo strategico di trasformazione della Rai in società di comunicazione multimediale;
- • il rafforzamento della struttura patrimoniale del Gruppo per 163 milioni di euro.
Nel paragrafo seguente si riporta una sintesi delle principali voci del conto economico e dello stato patrimoniale, unitamente alle motivazioni degli scostamenti più significativi rispetto ai valori registrati nell’esercizio precedente.
