Gården var bygd i 1898 på leirgrunn som hadde gitt ørlite grann etter på vestsiden, slik at vannet rant over dørstokken på samme side som døra var hengslet, lengst mot vest. Det rant ned på soveromsgulvet og trakk en våt strek over eikeparketten, stadig mot vest. Ved en fordypning i parketten hvilte vanntoget et øyeblikk før mer vann dyttet på bakfra, og det pilte som en engstelig rotte bort til vegglisten. Der trakk vannet til begge sider, søkte og liksom snuste under listen før det fant en glipe mellom enden av parkettbordene og veggen. I glipen lä en femkronemynt preget av kong Olavs profil og årstallet 1987, året før mynten hadde falt ut av snekkerens lomme. Men det var oppgangstider, mange loftsleigligheter skulle settes opp I en fei, og snekkeren hadde ikke brydd seg med ä lete.

The farm was built in 1898 on clay soil that had given way slightly on the west side, so that the water flowed over the doorstep on the same side that the door was hinged., farthest to the west. It ran down onto the bedroom floor and drew a wet line over the oak parquet, still towards the west. At a depression in the parquet the train of water rested for a moment until more water pushed from behind, and it hastened like an anxious rat towards the wall trim. There the water seeped away to both sides, and sought, as if sniffing, under the molding before it found a crack between the end of the parquet boards and the wall. In the crack there was a five-crown coin embossed with king Olav’s profile and the year 1987, the year before the coin had fallen out of the carpenter’s pocket. It was good times, however, many loft apartments were being built, and the carpenter had not bothered about looking for it.
