Originally from the United States, I have been living in Portugal for nearly thirty years. I have a Masters degree in Creative Writing, and a dedicated career in teaching English. I bring to my work as a translator skills I’ve gained from interpreting Portuguese to English on a daily basis, in both personal and professional spheres, in both the written and spoken word.
In terms of spoken Portuguese, as I have an intimate knowledge of the culture, I am able to interpret nuance, humor, and colloquialism. Yet my background as a teacher has trained my eye for accuracy of detail, grammar, syntax, as well as honed my editorial skills when approaching written texts. I have also done professional work as a proofreader in a variety of capacities.
I study French, with the hope of improving to where I feel comfortable working with this language as well. While taking my Masters degree, I completed a literary translation course, where I worked on poetry in Spanish and French.
