New proposal: indicate registration date Mar 28, 2003

I congratulate MMachado, because I could not be so generous. I think that having points in reward of an answer is a way to have people motivated, otherwise the system would not work, since competition is inherent to the human being. (This does not mean that if a colleague privately asks for my help I would not give it to her/him)

I propose to keep points as they are, but that each profile shows the date the translator registered in the site, assuming that from that date he

Wider variety of leader tables Mar 29, 2003

The leader tables that appear on the top page of Proz cycle through total, three months, last month and so on, so people who haven\'t been doing it for long can still get on the lists after a short period. An accuracy-related ranking could be added into the cycle. That way people who have built 4-digit scores (not me, I\'m just into 2 digits) will still get to show them on the top page. After all, it represents an enormous amount of work and commitment.

It might be useful if visitors could set what ranking they wanted to see. For example, medical experts might want to track the medical ranking in their language pair(s).

Helping because we want something in return??? Mar 29, 2003

Hello,

Just to say that I am really against helping others out just because they will give me points back. In fact there are many people that just give answers to get those points and they really don\'t care if their answers are adequate. There is always someone out there to reward bad answers as well, so many points do not mean good answers... at all!!!

Well, I like proz and think this site is really good even if that KudoZ was not available as such and I can leave without those points. Not generous, but realistic, because market does not choose people like that.

All the best to all of you

Regards,

Mónica

Why abolish KudoZ points? Mar 29, 2003

I would keep the KudoZ points system. They are fun, and the fun brings people who can provide useful help.

Of course there are KudoZ grabbers, after a while you know them well. But remember that KudoZ bring visibility. Someone answering carelessly to have lots of points will only make more evident his/her own carelessness.

My proposal was simple: the more statistical data shown the better.

My proposal was simple: show us the percentage of won/total answers for each answerer in each category.

What will it show?

A person has many answers and a few kudoZ points in a category (many total, low ratio): he or she is not a specialist in the field, he or she got his points occasionally due to the long term he or she\'s on kudoZ and probably due to askers\' mistakes.

A person has many answers and many points in the field (many total, good ratio) -- he or she is a pretty good in that field.

A person has few answers and many points in the field (high ratio) -- he or she is an obviously good pro in the field, though not really active as an answerer.

A person has many answers and few points in the field -- (low ratio) he or she is probably _not_ very good in the field.

That is what I have proposed.

Reliability ratio based on agrees/disagrees, which is described in FAQ, is not implemented yet, so direct Won/Total ratio, however imperfect, may be a provisional solution.

I guess a perfect system must take into account:

- total kudoZ pts;

- reliability ratios;

- responsibility for \"bad\" answers (a lot of disagrees);

- peers\' responsibility for their agrees/disagrees. For a while nothing (except moral obligations) prevents pros from massive disagrees; moreover in many cases agrees/disagrees are only a mean to earn browniez easily.

Resetting kudoZ points each year seems not right to me. The kudoZ total shows how many times the person was useful to an asker, so it\'s just and right to keep the total points ranking.
