It usually is 10 minutes if there's work to be done, otherwise up tp 20 min. Recently, I have developed a habit of reading my emails while still in bed (I get them on my mobile) and this is a perfect wake up for me, especially when I get an email that is urgent! ...mainly on my deadlines. On an ordinary day the very first thing I do is scan my incoming e-mails for messages from clients. I do this on waking up, even before getting dressed. Then after I've walked my dogs I come back and read the important e-mails, then I start translating. I put off the frivolous e-mails until the end of the day. I keep several e-mail accounts for different purposes (business, finance, personal, photos) and I like to check in with what is going on in the two most important accounts (personal and business) before starting my day. This allows me to be sure that I have responded to all pending matters which enables the people who rely on me to carry on with their days. For me, it's refreshing to know that I have cleared off my mental desk before I settle into a larger project.
