A new calendar has been created to display ProZ.com events. The calendar can be located at - http://www.proz.com/?sp=events_calendar (You can also navigate to the calendar by selecting the Community drop down tab on the main navigation bar from most pages.)

The calendar enables filtering by event type - powwow, training, conferences (and later, online trainings and webinars.) Country can also be specified. At the moment, this calendar is for ProZ.com events only.

Please let us know if there are any requests or issues with the calendar.

Drew

Some bells and whistles, please Jan 28, 2009

Hi Drew,
The calendar looks useful, and the possibility to have only powwows/trainings/conferences displayed is great, but some further differentiation in the display and some more customization features would be welcome.
For example:
- The three main categories (P/T/C) could be displayed in different font colors;
- Events taking place in the country of the user could be displayed with a different background color; online events with another one.

- The trainings part could be further customized. The language of each training should be included, and trainings that are not in any of the user's working languages could be displayed differently (e.g., in gray; also). Further filtering (specifying the CAT tool) would also be useful. Perhaps inserting logos (WF, Trados, etc.) could also make it easier to read the calendar at a glance.
CheerZ,
Attila

some other ideas Jan 28, 2009

In the country selection dropdown box, only the list of countries where actual events are taking place should be listed. Or, to make even simpler, a short list of major geographical regions (e.g. North/Central/South America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, South Asia, Asia/Pacific) would be sufficient.

The number of registered participants for each event could be displayed in brackets after the name of the event. (Once there's a critical mass, many others will sign up.)

my two cents

good feedback Jan 28, 2009

Thanks Attila, thanks Csaba.

We wanted to release this to get it out there - and we do have plans to improve and update. Font color diferntiation is first on our list. Lots of good suggestions - thank you for your input.

I will repost when we are able to make these changes.

Drew

SITE LOCALIZER
Incomplete display when more than 3 events per day Jan 28, 2009

The fields seem to be to small to display all the events in a single day if there are three or more events and it is not possible to scroll down. As an illustration, see Feb 06 & 07.

number of events: redundant Jan 28, 2009

Actually, it doesn't make much sense to display the number of events. Just display the events themselves.

Include non-ProZ.com events Jan 29, 2009

Thanks for this new addition to the site and for the good suggestions from everyone.

It would be nice if non-ProZ.com events related to the translation industry could be included as well. They are often advertised on ProZ.com, so why not include them in the calendar?

Great suggestions - changes made Jan 29, 2009

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. We have implemented the following changes:
moved the calendar further up on the page, and improved search box, (working on listing only those upcoming events as it now shows locations where we have ever had an event) font color differentiation for event type, and removed the redundant display of the # of events on a given day.

Thanks for all the feedback - please keep the improvement suggestions coming.

Drew

What if I would like to see the latest month of the year? Jan 30, 2009

Should I press the "next month" button 11 times?

Please put there an option in order to see the desired period (month).

A bug? Doesn't show some events. Jan 30, 2009

I just looked at it (late on Fri 30 Jan 09 in England). It didn't show the London PowWow taking place on Sat 31 Jan, even if I filtered out everything except powwows.
