Czech term
horské minikáry
Czech to English
Other
Tourism & Travel
Jde o populární letní atrakci v horských střediscích - viz internet - má to obdobu v anglicky mluvících zemích?
Proposed translations
(English)
4 +1 | downhill carts | Prokop Vantuch |
4 | soapbox races | vic voskuil |
3 | mountain go-carts | Pavel Prudký |
3 | ATVs (all terrain vehicles) | Katarina Kazikova |

downhill carts
Myslím, že tomu slovu "carts" se asi nevyhneme, ale ten přívlastek "downhill" by mohl naznačovat, že pohon zajišťuje gravitace a nikoliv motor. :-)
Našel jsem odkaz i na australské stránce.

vic voskuil
: nice one :-) (see below for a more generic (but not necessarily better!) term)

mountain go-carts
je to sice německý web, pravda, anglický svět to moc nezná ...
Note from asker:
Právě tomu go-cart/kart jsem se chtěl vyhnout, protože to jsou motokáry, kdežto horské minikáry jsou bez motoru. |

soapbox races

Here's a plethora of possible translations (too many to mention, and not all that surprising due to its widespread popularity and the fact that you only need the faintest of slopes to get going (eg. a 10 meter high hill suffices (no joke!))
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soapbox_(car)
(it'll give a nudge regarding the go-kart controversy as well ;)
As to precise spelling.... the dictionary has a preference for the one word version, but hardly anyone will make a meal of it if you add a space or a hyphen.
As a name for an event I'd go with race rather than with cars/carts/trolleys/etc., but have a look what your context calls for.
(and as my agree indicates: especially in the mountains I'd say Prokop's suggestion is also a fine option:)

ATVs (all terrain vehicles)
termin používaný v USA, potom to rozlišujú ďalej na:
quads - štvorkolesové
trikes - trojkolesové
bikes - dvojkolesové, často dirtbikes

Note added at 7 hrs (2008-07-25 22:17:23 GMT)
--------------------------------------------------
Rozhodne vhodný termín, pretože ak zkontroluješ internet - yamaha, kawasaki - označujú tieto produkty tiež ako ATVs.
www.kawasaki.com
www.yamaha-motor.com - utility ATVs, alebo sides x sides
