Hi,

I work with:
Trados 2007 (Version 7.5.0.756)
Windows XP
MS Office 2003.

I have gone through the other forum posts on related topics, but am hoping some wise soul out there has found a better solution!

My problem:

Hi,

I work with:
Trados 2007 (Version 7.5.0.756)

I have gone through the other forum posts on related topics, but am hoping some wise soul out there has found a better solution!

My problem:

1) How do I handle very very large Word docs in TagEditor?
“Large” means over 300 pages, with lots of formatting, screenshots, page breaks, section breaks, etc. These are software manuals.
[Please don’t advise me to remove the breaks etc. and restore them after clean up - that is impossible, because practically every paragraph/section in the doc is followed by a page break!]

2) I am able to open the doc in TagEditor and translate too… and here comes the problem. When I save as… it throws up a line break error. I followed the various suggestions in the previous posts… in vain!

3) I am too scared to work directly in Word with Trados, because it invariably messes up the formatting. Or is there a secret formula for success here

Any suggestions, tips would be heartily welcome!!

cheers
Sandhya

Split the file to many small files Sep 7, 2009

Replace all section, page and column breaks by themselves preceeded by a paragraph break. This should help you to avoid "Error while writing breaks".
Removing graphics could also be a good idea.

Or upgrade to Studio. Works flawlesly with Word files of over 200 pages and > 45 MB in size.

Analyse and export unknown segments Sep 7, 2009

I sometimes analyse the file and then export unknown segments (99%). This creates a list of the segments that need to be translated without any formatting. Next, you can translate this in Word (or TagEditor). When you have finished, you can pretranslate your original file (either after having saved your original Word document as a ttx file or as a Word file).
