Bio
Hello! My name is Eóin (pronounced Owen), and I am currently an intern at a literary agency in Amsterdam, where I edit texts, translate, write reports, email drafts, sales pitches and press releases, and judge manuscripts. I received my master program in Linguistics, specialization Language and Communication, from Leiden University in the Netherlands.
Born in Amsterdam to two Dutch parents, my mother tongue is definitely Dutch. However, I consider myself to have obtained a near-native command of English. In high school I did the bilingual English - Dutch program, 'tweetalig vwo / gymnasium', earning a Cambridge FCE and IB English degree along the way. For my bachelor degree I attended the international honours college Roosevelt Academy in Zeeland, the Netherlands, where I took mostly history, literature and language courses. I was also lucky enough to spend a semester in the United States, studying languages and literature at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
My passion is literature, and I hope that in the future I can find employment in the publishing and / or editing sector. A dream job for me would involve working with texts, and surrounded by books and people who love books.
Although I have little to no experience as a translator, I believe I am suited for the job. I am anxious to learn. I also know how to write and edit papers, free of spelling mistakes or grammatical levels, at an academic level. I am familiar with the citation conventions of various different styles. Finally, I am also very detail-oriented, and pride myself on my ability to spot at least a dozen spelling mistakes in any of my course textbooks. For fun, as a teenager, I once translated a Harry Potter book from English into Dutch. I hope very much that I can one day work for your company and deliver good work.
