Source text - Danish Bygninger er ofte mere imposante indeni, end de er udenpå. Jeg nærmer mig Den Sorte Diamant med dens kubistiske form, beklædt med sort, mat glas. Den står så bastant og solidt forankret ved vandet, at intet i denne verden synes at kunne rokke den. Indtrykket er endnu stærkere, da jeg træder indenfor. Bygningen er så enorm, at den virker tom.
På turen op ad rulletrappen til første sal, hvor vi har aftalt at mødes, beundrer jeg det store rums arkitektur. De store, bølgende balkonforkanter i foyerrummet, det kolossale glasparti bag mig, som vender ud mod Christianshavns Kanal, den enkelhed, hvormed det hele er skabt i et skævt format. Det er, som om de indre rum i modsætning til det kompakte ydre indeholder en luftighed og rablende dimension. En nobel mand i nypresset, sort jakkesæt indlagt på en institution for sindslidende. Endelig en original konstruktion blandt få andre i København i nyere tid. Endelig noget vovet og frækt i en by, hvor den dominerende arkitektoniske mode i mange år var præ-fabrikerede, røde og gule murstenshuse med de sædvanlige kighuller.
Når jeg vender tilbage fra en rejse til udlandet og lander i Kastrup Lufthavn, rammes jeg altid af den første hjemlige depression, når jeg kører forbi den slags huse på Amagerbrogade. Umiddelbart før jeg når til H.C. Andersens Boulevard, føler jeg behov for krisehjælp. Her er omsider noget, der imponerer øjet.
Translation - English Buildings are often more imposing inside than they are outwardly. I am approaching The Black Diamond, its cubist form clad in black, matte glass. It stands so robust, and solidly anchored by the water that nothing in this world seems capable of budging it. The impression is even stronger when I step inside. The building is so enormous that it seems empty.
On my way up the escalator to the first floor, where we have decided to meet, I admire the great room’s architecture. The large, undulating balcony fronts in the foyer, the colossal glass sheet behind me, which turns out toward Christianshavn’s Canal, the simplicity with which all of it has been made on a crooked plan. It’s as if the inner rooms, in contrast to the compact exterior, contain an airiness and raving dimensions. A nobleman in a freshly-pressed suit, hospitalized at an institution for the mentally ill. At last an original construction, one of only a few in Copenhagen in recent times. At last, something daring and naughty in a city where the dominant architectonic fashion for many years was prefabricated red and yellow brick houses with the customary peepholes.
When I return from a trip abroad and land at Kastrup Airport, I am always hit by the first homecoming depression when I pass houses of that type on Amagerbrogade. Just before I reach H.C. Andersen’s Boulevard, I feel the need for crisis intervention. Here, at last, is something that impresses the eye.

I was born in Denmark, and attended Danish primary schools until age eleven, when we moved to the United States. I had already had a year of English instruction in school, and an American language tutor had prepared me for our move. By the end of my second year in the United States, I was a finalist in my class spelling bee, and on my way to becoming a pretty good writer in English.
In college, I majored in Comparative Literature, and supplemented my growing language affinity with creative-writing classes, as well as classes in French, Spanish, Polish, and Russian.
I moved to Los Angeles to attend graduate film school, and since then I have cemented my grasp of Spanish through frequent practice, while occasionally doing proofreading or translation jobs in Danish.
I am an experienced and award-winning screenwriter, and have earned the bulk of my living for the past fifteen years as a film editor. I regularly return to spend periods in Copenhagen, refreshing and updating my Danish.
I am a skilled and subtle editor of both text and film/video, and am an attentive lover of the subtleties of expression in each of the languages I speak.
