Source text - Spanish Londres y los damnificados en Chile
Las más de 600 mil hectáreas quemadas en Chile desde comienzos de año han acabado con bosques y pueblos completos. Los incendios más devastadores en la historia del país han dejado a miles de damnificados sin casa, colegio ni lugar de trabajo. En Londres, el 4 de marzo, un evento irá en su ayuda.
Preparados para terremotos, tsunamis y violentas erupciones volcánicas, los 17 millones de chilenos no contaban con que 2017 comenzaría con los incendios más devastadores de toda su historia.
En las regiones de O’Higgins, Maule y Biobío, todas ellas al sur de Santiago, los múltiples focos del fuego avanzaron con inédita velocidad. A su favor jugaron históricas olas de calor, vientos de alta intensidad, una baja humedad y la montañosa geografía de las zonas afectadas.
Brigadistas chilenos y otros llegados de una veintena de países combatieron las llamas. Muchos de ellos, presentes en los más grandes incendios del mundo, jamás habían visto el fuego avanzar a velocidades similares. Se estima que hasta 4,2 kilómetros por hora fue el ritmo de avance de algunos de ellos, llegando tener 200 kilómetros de perímetro y consumir 9 mil hectáreas en apenas 10 horas.
Uno de los casos más dramáticos fue el de Santa Olga, pueblo construido en la década de los 60 y en el que vivían 5 mil personas. La localidad, dedicada principalmente al rubro maderero, desapareció por completo bajo las llamas en una madrugada en la que todos los habitantes debieron evacuar sus casas. Por la mañana, cuando el sol apareció entre el humo, del pueblo solo quedaban cenizas.
En Pumanque, algunos kilómetros más al norte, las llamas quemaron un 60% de la comuna, en una zona en la que el 80% de las viviendas ya habían sido afectadas por el terremoto del 27 de febrero de 2010.
A la ayuda que llegó a través de bomberos, rescatistas y aviones especializados se sumó una serie de eventos benéficos y de recaudación de fondos. Llevados a cabo tanto en Chile como en otras latitudes, ellos han reunidos fondos en ayuda de los damnificados por el fuego. Uno de ellos se llevará a cabo en Londres en El Barrio Night Club.
En la ocasión se presentarán artistas como Katy Prado, Judy Michael, El Chan, The Roves y John Cuevas, a los que se sumarán otros por confirmar.
Todo lo recaudado en esta fiesta de música y solidaridad se enviará directamente a los damnificados a través de la Embajada Chilena en Londres.

Translation - English London and the victims of the Chilean wildfires
The most devastating wildfires in Chile’s history, which burnt more than 600 thousand hectares of land in the country at the beginning of the year, have destroyed entire forests and towns. They have also left thousands of people homeless, and have obliterated schools and workplaces. On the 4th March, an event to help all those affected by this disaster will take place in London.
Chile was prepared for the earthquakes, tsunamis and violent volcanic eruptions that shook the nation. However, the country’s 17 million inhabitants did not expect that 2017 would start with the most devastating wildfires in Chile’s recent history.
The multiple seats of fire spread at an unprecedented rate in the O’Higgins, Maule and Biobio regions, all located in the south of Santiago. Historic heat waves, high-intensity winds, low humidity and the mountainous geography of the affected area, worked in the wildfires’ favour. Chilean firefighters fought the flames along with others who arrived from 20 different countries. Many of those who had tackled some of the biggest fires in the world commented on how they had never seen anything on this scale. It is estimated that some of the fires spread at a rate of up to 4.2km per hour, reaching a perimeter of 200km and consuming 9 thousand hectares in barely 10 hours.
One of the most affected areas was Santa Olga, a town built in the 60s mainly for the timber industry. This town completely disappeared under the flames in the early hours of the morning on which all 5000 of its inhabitants had to be evacuated. When the sun finally peeked through the smoke, all that was left of the Santa Olga was ash.
In Pumanque, several kilometres further to the north, the flames burnt 60% of the commune, destroying an area in which 80% of the houses had been affected by the 2010 earthquake.
A series of charity events and fundraisers have contributed to the help that rescuers, specialised planes, and firefighters gave to Chile that day. These events were held in Chile as well as in other countries and have raised funds to help those affected by the wildfires. Another fundraising event will take place in El Barrio nightclub in London.
The event will feature artists such as Katy Prado, Judy Michael, El Chan, The Roves and John Cuevas, as well as others who have yet to confirm their attendance.
The Chilean Embassy in London will directly send all the proceeds from this solidarity music festival to the victims of the wildfires.
