The fuel system consists of a fuel tank (which is mounted under the rear of the car, with an electric fuel pump immersed in it), a fuel filter and the fuel feed and return lines. On single-point injection models the fuel is supplied by a throttle body assembly, which incorporates the single fuel injector and the fuel pressure regulator. On multi-point injection models the fuel pump supplies fuel to the fuel rail, which acts as a reservoir for the four fuel injectors which inject fuel into the inlet tracts. In addition, there is an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and various sensors, electrical components and related wiring.
Refer to Section 7 for further information on the operation of each fuel injection system, and to Section 18 for information on the exhaust system.
Warning: Many of the procedures in this Chapter require the removal of fuel lines and connections, which may result in some fuel spillage. Before carrying out any operation on the fuel system, refer to the precautions given in "Safety first!" at the beginning of this manual, and follow them implicitly. Petrol is a highly dangerous and volatile liquid, and the precautions necessary when handling it cannot be overstressed.

Nos modelos de injeção mono-ponto a gasolina é fornecida por uma válvula de estrangulamento, a qual incorpora o injetor único de combustível e o regulador de pressão do combustível. Nos modelos de injeção por múltiplos pontos, a bomba de gasolina fornece combustível para a longarina, a qual atua como um reservatório para os quatro injetores de combustível, que por sua vez injeta combustível no sistema de admissão. Além disso existe uma Unidade Eletrônica de Controle (ECU, na sigla em inglês), vários sensores, componentes elétricos e fiação.
