G'day everyone
An agency that I work for has hinted that Idiom 10 will be used for an upcoming project. Can anyone tell me:
1. How is Idiom 10 different from Idiom 9 or Idiom 8, with regard to: 1.1 File backward compatibility 1.2 Set of features 1.3 ...anything else I should be concerned about
2. What are the system requirements for Idiom 10?
Thanks Samuel

SDL WorldServer 2011

Hi Samuel,
Maybe you can start with the release notes for this version:
On the system specifications... if you are referring to WorldServer itself then I think we'd need a little bit more information on what you need. If you mean desktop tools... then it's Studio 2011.

The agency will use Idiom 10 (presumably that means WorldServer 10.0) but the translators will be required to work in Idiom Desktop Workbench (version not specified). Is there a version 10 of it? I have version 9.0.1.60 on my computer.
Can translators use Idiom version 9 if the server uses version 10 (in this case previous jobs were done on Idiom as well, so the agency might want to reuse previous translations), or would translators be forced to use Trados 2011?
Thanks Samuel

Hi Samuel,

The latest version of Idiom Desktop Workbench is 9.1.
If the customer already has WorldServer installed and is upgrading from an earlier version then they will have the capability to create two package formats, the *.XLZ which is based on XLIFF files created using the old Idiom filetypes and the *.WSXZ which is based on SDLXLIFF files created using the new Studio filetypes. If they use the new Studio filetypes in conjunction with the *.XLZ package creation then any files using these will not be included in the package because Desktop Workbench cannot use them.
If the customer is installing WorldServer from scratch then they will only have the ability to create packages in the *.WSXZ format which means for Studio.
There is a new version of Studio being launched called Studio Express and this is similar to Starter but is only for use by companies using our various Enterprise systems and they will be able to make this available to their translators in a similar way to SDLX Lite or Desktop Workbench in the past. You can see the functionailty of this version in this KB article:

Readings about using Studio Express with Worldserver
Mar 2, 2012
Hi Paul,
Do you have any documentation about how to work with Worldserver using Studio Express? Like how to do concordance online, upload package to WorldServer directly from Studio, etc?
Thanks, Ade
