Slightly below average | Jan 29, 2015 |
January is always slow for me. That's fine. I have a lot of catchup to do.

January got off to a slow start, but last week all the juicy projects I'd been told would arrive in the new year all arrived at once. I'm booked up now for weeks, which is both comforting and daunting.

Average = normal for me = might be heavy for some, as I tend to work 7 days a week. In fact, if I received no new translation work at all for a week, I'd probably be able to deal with my backlog ( I have 2 non-urgent jobs underway since last year that I just can't find the time to finish, due to all the "urgent" little jobs that have been coming in all month). Of my normal workload, or of other translators'? I know nothing about the second. I have been working like crazy for some time, so I answered "well above", but this is not true in the context of the few last months. I couldn't do more, fullstop.
Well above average | Jan 29, 2015 |
2015 got off to a very, very slow start (well below average), and then a HUGE project hit me (well above average)! My head is spinning, but that's the life of a freelancer....

I can't claim to have pinched other people's clients - these jobs are very Scandinavian and for clients that go way back. I'm really sorry I can't send anything to those who are finding life too quiet!
I haven't even got time to say so on here. Oh...

Right now, I'm on vacation, but I usually don't have time to do anything else but work on normal days (10 to 14 working hours a day). I try to save Sundays, for the good of my health and relationship. This year, I'll try to charge higher rates, work a little less and keep my incoming.

August, September, October - chaotic November - about right December - catastrophic January - forced holiday to begin with but last two weeks chaotic In other words, business as usual. The freelancer's feast or famine.

...cannot be considered for average purposes, as these are probably the worst months of the year, in terms of workload. My answer for this question would be, in average: Good enough to pay my bills, but I could well do twice as much work as I'm doing right now.
