It was a recommendation from another long-standing client working in the same area (market research/agriculture/livestock). Nice person, communicative and a prompt payer.

Client wants low rates regardless of quality. I also think that client like to change translators for different style and lower rates ... But by the way, why clients tend to change their translator?

Please implement a link to retract and edit my vote! | Feb 23, 2017 |
From Alberto: I was very sleepy and thus misread the poll's question, and voted the wrong answer: Could ProZ implement a link to retract and edit my vote? At least in the first hour after voting. That would add to the poll's accuracy !

She was a private, direct client recommended by a colleague whom I met at a powwow many moons ago... I have worked with him on several occasions. They are both examples of good jobs coming indirectly, not to say very indirectly, from this site. It is a pity they don't appear in the statistics!

I get quite a few jobs which are obviously one-offs, e.g. my latest was a woman wanting marriage and divorce certificates translated for a university entrance application. Books are usually one-offs too, although I am on my fourth book from one particular author. The question appears aimed at those who work mostly for agencies. I do agency work myself, but it's difficult to say if an agency for which you have done one job will lead to repeat business.

I have taken on two new clients this year already - one in January and one in February. These are the first new clients I have taken on in a long time. Too early to say anything about the relationships yet.

A fellow freelancer I've known for a few years. She had a project that was right up my alley and the conditions were right, so there I went!
I frequently work for end clients. I think that the person who did the poll was thinking of translation companies or agencies. In that case - 1 or 2 years ago.
Over the past 2-6 months | Feb 23, 2017 |
My latest new client popped up in December. I hope this first long assignment will lead to repeat business. Over the past months some clients I first considered as one-offs have reappeared suddenly…
In the past month | Feb 23, 2017 |
I happened to be contacted by two new clients the last few weeks, one had found me on ProZ and the other had seen my website. They accepted my new rates for 2017, which can be difficult for some old clients to swallow.
