There are at least two ways to translate Across translation projects in CafeTran Espresso:

  1. Method 1: Export and import of a TMX file in Across is allowed.
  2. Method 2: Export or import of a TMX file in Across is restricted.

Method 1

  • In Across, copy all source segments to the target side.
  • Save the translation project in the crossTank.
  • Export a TMX file.

  • Import the translated TMX file in the crossTank.
  • Use the updated crossTank data to translate the project in Across.

Method 2

  • In Across, copy all source segments to the target side.
  • For each target segment, cut the content to the clipboard and insert a numbered placeholder (e.g. «1») in the target cell. Paste the placeholder plus the content of the target segment to an Ms Word or LibreOffice document:

  • Translate the Ms Word document in CafeTran Espresso.
  • Export the translated document and open it in Ms Word or LibreOffice.
  • In Across, replace every placeholder with the content of the translated segment from the Ms Word or LibreOffice document.

It's clear that Method 2 should be automated with AutoHotkey*) (Windows) or Keyboard Maestro (Mac).

Method 3

  • Open the translation project in Across.
  • Populate the target segments with the content of the source segments.
  • Create a new CafeTran Espresso project, configure all the resources that you need and use the Clipboard Workflow to translate the populated target cells via CafeTran Espresso.

*) Something like this:

I'm looking for a script to extract/retrieve the contents of cells from a(ny) grid-based app. The app at hand is the CAT tool Across, but with a slight modification the script could be used for other grid-based apps (like Ms Excel, LibreOffice Calc) too...

Task 1: Extract the contents of all cells in a column and replace them with numbered placeholders.

Steps:

• Simulate Ctrl+A
• Simulate Ctrl+C
• Replace the cell content with a numbered placeholder, e.g. «1».
• Switch to an opened document in Ms Word or LibreOffice.
• Paste the numbered placeholder plus a tab character plus the extracted cell content plus a new paragraph character.
• Return to the grid-based app with the text to extract.
• Simulate Alt+Down (Across) or Down (Excel) to go to the next cell in the column.
• Repeat steps.

Task 2: Retrieve the content of every cell via the placeholder from the Ms Word/LibreOffice document.

Steps:

• Copy the content of the document (manual step; all formatting should be kept!).
• In Across (Excel etc.): Copy the content of a cell (e.g. «1»).
• On the clipboard, search the paragraph that contains the placeholder.
• Assign the paragraph's content to a variable (all formatting should be kept!).
• Delete the placeholder plus the tab character from the variable.
• Paste the variable into the cell.
• Simulate Alt+Down (Across) or Down (Excel).
• Repeat steps.

Let's see if a kind person solves this task .

Something like this solution with Keyboard Maestro. Here demoed with Wfa, since I current have no crossWeb project available. But the principle is the same.
