How to use your resources from Déjà Vu in CafeTran Espresso Mar 10, 2023

Basically, you will have to export your TM database to TMX and your termbase to Excel. (You can export your termbase to tab-delimited text –which can be used in CafeTran Espresso directly–, but you should be familiair with encoding. So I would say that this is for experienced users.)

When you are an experienced user of Déjà Vu, you will know how to export a TM and a termbase, so I will not describe that here.

When you are an experienced user of Déjà Vu, you will know how to export a TM and a termbase, so I will not describe that here.

I will describe how to use your resources in CafeTran Espresso:

  • Create a new project.
  • In the Memory menu choose Open memory.
  • Open the exported tmx file.
  • In the next dialogue box select the Processing tags checkbox:

That's all to do to start using your exported Déjà Vu TM.

And here is how to use your Déjà Vu termbase:

  • Open the exported xls file with Excel (or LibreOffice Calc) and save the file as an xlsx file.
  • In the Glossary menu choose Import MS Excel glossary ...:

Translate all exact matches Mar 10, 2023

To translate all exact matches from your exported Déjà Vu TM, chose Insert all exact matches in the Translate menu:

As you can see, your tags (markup) from Déjà Vu are used by CafeTran Espresso.

You can merge glossary entries easily Mar 10, 2023

This is how the imported Déjà Vu termbase looks like when opened in CafeTran Espresso:

CafeTran Espresso has a feature to merge target terms easily, kind of defining them as synonyms, but not restricted to that:

After using that command, the glossary looks like:
Screen Shot 2023-03-10 at 11.04.23
The newest target term (the one with the highest line number) will be assigned as the first target term (the one that will be used by CafeTran Espresso's auto-assembling feature). (This is only valid once you have grouped target terms by using the merge feature for the first time!)
You can change the order and spelling of the target terms by clicking on a blue source term in the glossary pane:

Does CT also support predictive typing? Mar 15, 2023

Deja Vu still supports both: suggestions from TM and TB (AutoWrite; below the segment, highlighted blue) and suggestions generated by MS Windows (above the segment, in grey colour).

AutoWrite + AutoFill

DV is still up to date, at least for me.
