Hi. Do any translator's use Speech Recognition instead of and/or as an aid to typing i.e. Vista's Speech Recognition. I have just tried it and it did not pick up any words correctly except 'Hello' but maybe with a good mic .... Thanks garrett james higgins

Yes, it works fine

However, you need 2 GB RAM to make it work properly.
As for it not picking up words correctly:
1) Have you gone through the training properly? 2) Do you have the microphone positioned correctly? (Move it around a bit and see if recognition improves.)

*directions to make a test Sound Recorder recording in Microsoft Vista-
1. Make sure you have an audio input device, such as a microphone. Microphones connect to your computer sound card or preferably via a USB input. USB sound input bypasses an unshielded computer sound card and assures you of good sound input. 2. Right Click the speaker icon in the lower right Taskbar of the computer screen. Select Recording Devices. Make sure the correct Recording Device (sound card or USB) is selected as the Default. 3. Start Sound Recorder by clicking the Start button in the lower left of your screen. Next, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Sound Recorder. 4. Click Start Recording. Speak clearly for about 5 seconds. 5. To stop recording audio, click Stop Recording. 6. Click the File name box, type a file name for the recorded sound, and then click Save to save the recorded sound as an audio file. We point the file to be saved on the Desktop so it is easily found. Double click the file you saved and your Media Player will play it back. There should be no obvious electronic noise. If there is electronic noise: • If using a non USB microphone, purchase a USB soundpod. https://www.knowbrainer.com/storefront/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=44 • If using a notebook computer, disconnect the power cord from the AC outlet and make another recording. Some charging units have reversed polarity and introduce electronic noise.
Every time I try to run this application I have information that this function is not supported in my language (I use Polish version of Vista). It is quite upsetting as I read that this function is very useful and I would be happy to use it for English only). Maybe at some point in the future they will fix it?
Kind Regards S

It works

It works fine. Indeed, I do not use DNS anymore as this Vista's speech recognition substitutes the former properly. Certainly, I had to train it the first days and make some spellings every day. I like it a lot.
